Eugène Reimagines Dior’s Lady Dior Bag with Haitian Heritage

Eugène Reimagines Dior’s Lady Dior Bag with Haitian HeritageArtist Eugène transforms Dior's Lady Dior bag, drawing on Haitian heritage with leather, beads, and raffia. A moving canvas exploring identity, strength, and origins. Debuts at Art Basel Paris.

For a years, the job has invited musicians from all over the world to change the traditional bag into an artwork. Eugène is just one of just two united state– based musicians amongst ten international participants selected for this turning point version, which will certainly premiere at Art Basel Paris later this month prior to appearing at Dior boutiques worldwide.

Haitian Influences on Dior Bag Design

Eugène’s version of the Woman Dior draws on his Haitian origins, integrating leather and textile jumble, wood beads, macramé, raffia embroidery, and straw weaving. One standout style includes woven leather side panels inlaid with pearls– a nod to Haiti’s historic nickname, the “Pearl of the Antilles.” Pearls, long signs of purity and improvement in Dior’s aesthetic language, are reimagined right here as emblems of endurance and tradition.

    Eugène: ‘Moving Canvas’ Approach

Based in Atlanta, Eugène comes close to the bag as a “relocating canvas,” an expansion of his portraiture technique checking out identity, strength, and origins. Following its launching in Paris, his cooperation will secure special activations during Art Basel Miami Beach in December.

Eugène’s work has been displayed in the United States and abroad and is kept in both exclusive and institutional collections. His last solo show, Solitude, was with Mariane Ibrahim, Paris. The gallery also offered Eugène a solo booth at Frieze Los Angeles earlier this year.
